Attractions on Fanoe

The beach and the nature are the biggest attractions on Fanoe. Towards west you find the large, sandy beach, towards east the fascinating landscape of the Wadden Sea and in between the dune heath and forest.

But Fanoe is more that beach and nature. The two towns Nordby and Sønderho tell stories about the maritime past, there are museums (a.o. Fanø Art Museum and The Fanø Shipping and Costume Collection), the remnants from the Atlantic Wall from WW II.

For the children the Forest Playground is a must.

From Kikkebjerg there is a fantastic view over the northern part of Fanoe, over Nordby and  towards Esbjerg.

During the sailing era Kikkebjerget was used as a look out point for the pilots from Nordby. When Esbjerg Harbour became the center for shipping this function stopped.

The old house on top of Kikkebjerget (Lodshuset - the Pilot House) was destroyed during the storm in 1999. The present house was erected as a memory of the original function of the damaged house.

Kikkebjerg is 17 meters high and is of course part of the "The Big 5" - the five highest mountains on Fanoe.

Pælebjerg is one of the favorite excursion spots on Fanoe. From the top you have a wonderful view over the Fanø Klitplantage and the beach.

The surroundings of Pælebjerg also includes a small lake - and during summertime there are plenty of waterlilies in the lake.  The Forest Playground is close by. As well as the marked Mountain-Bike trail. There are also quite a lot of marked hiking routes starting around Pælebjerg.

Pælebjerg is the highest mountain on Fanoe - 21 meters, and is of course part of "The Big 5"; the five highest mountains on the island.
