Seals

The seals on Fanø are one of the most fascinating experiences on Fanø. Experience both the spotted seal and the more rare and large gray seal on the large sandbar west of Sønderho.

At low tide, you can walk 1.5 km out to sea to the seal bank. There are guided excursions throughout the season.

Sealsafari - Club Fanø

With Club Fanø we hike approx. 1.7 km at low tide from Sønderho Strand to the Sandbank Galgerevet on the dry seabed. In itself a unique experience. Along the way, the guide tells about the mudflats and the exciting creatures we meet along the way.

Fanø - that is beach holiday

There is 12 km of sandy beach to frolic on. Here you can swim, hike and cycle, practice beach sports, find amber and much more.

The beaches at Fanø Bad and Rindby beach are the most popular bathing beaches. the lake Jessen's sand to the north is a huge sandy desert and to the south you can go far out into the sea at low tide. There is something for everyone

The Waddensea National Park

Fanø is part of the Wadden Sea National Park, which is on UNESCO's World Heritage List.

The Wadden Sea is the largest continuous tidal area in Europe and an important resting place for migratory birds.

Duck Decoys

Duck decoys are something that you can only experience on Fanø. Albue Fuglekøje and Sønderho gl. fuglekøje. Today, Duck Decoys are lovely natural pearls with swimming ducks.

Amber - the Gold of Fanø

Become a treasure hunter on Fanø. Hunt for the amber that washes up on the beach to the west. You will find the amber especially right after a period of strong waves.

Fanø on Bike

There are cycle paths between all the urban areas on Fanø (Nordby, Fanø Bad, Rindby Strand and Sønderho), so it is safe and secure to cycle on Fanø - for children and adults. The whole island is only approx. 15 km long and approx. 5 km at the widest point, so the distances are short. The bicycle is the ideal way to experience Fanø.

We rent quality bicycles from our shops in Kirkevejen 37 in Rindby Strand and Sønderklit 4 in Fanø Bad. We have both normal bicycles and e-bikes for rent. All bikes are uni-sex.

Fanø - a Maritime Superpower

Until the end of the 19th century, Fanø was a great power in shipping. Many large sailing ships were native to the island and the ships went all over the world.  

When steamships took over, the shipping era on Fanø ended, but the traditions and culture from that time is still very important on the island.

Nordby - the Capital of Fanø

The maritime history is visible everywhere in Nordby. The old skipper's houses, the road names, the maritime schools, and not least the 2 museums, Skibsfart & Dragtsamlingen and Fanø Museum.

Nordby is the center for many of the cultural activities on Fanø.

Fanø Skibsfart og Dragtsamling

The museum shows the history of Fanø, which for several hundred years has created different living conditions for the inhabitants, and tells the story of the special maritime culture. At the exhibitions you can experience both ship paintings and fine ship models in the same 1:48 scale. From a small Evert to the very large Fulrigger. On the 1st floor you get an insight into the women's lives on the island and their characteristic Fanø costumes. 

Fanø Museum

Externally, a modest building that was built in 1801. The museum reopened in 2018 after a major renovation.

Inside, the house contains a very versatile collection of furniture, tools, implements, etc., so that you get an impression of how people have coped for approx. 150-200 years ago. In addition to the things that belonged to everyday life, you can see rare things that the sailors brought home from all over the world.

Sønderho

A visit to Sønderho is a "must" when visiting Fanø. It is not without reason that Sønderho won the award as Denmark's most beautiful village. When you walk in the narrow streets with the fine old houses, you feel transported to another time.

Town Walk Sønderho

Sønderho is the epitome of coziness and romance.

The small village on the southern tip of Fanø is famous for its many beautiful houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. Wandering around Sønderho is like being taken 150 years back in time.

Hannes Hus

is a "skipper's house" and was built in the 1750s. The old environment has been preserved, so you would think that the skipper and his wife had just left home. Here are still the original furniture, the bookcase, pictures, the stall for the sheep and the things the skipper brought home from his travels.

Sønderho Mill

In the old days, the Sønderhonings had to use Kongens mølle in Ribe when the grain had to be ground. But in 1701 the priest was given permission to build the first mill. Several mills were then built, among others a stub mill, which burned down in 1894.The current mill was built the following year and has now been converted into a museum.

Sønderho Brandmuseum

The spray house is one of Denmark's oldest and best preserved. In the building, which has housed the old fire sprinkler since 1868, Jørgen von Hahn has over the years collected effects, records etc. that give a vivid impression of the fire preparedness of the time.

The spray truck is from 1895 and originates from Schackenborg. It is of the same type as Sønderho's original fire sprinkler from 1868.

Sønderho Life Boat

Is fully equipped with a lifeboat and rescue equipment. The boat stands on the set of wheels on which it was pulled to the beach by 6 horses. You can also see the equipment that the lifeboat was equipped with as well as the other rescue equipment that could be used from the beach. There are also a number of plates with old photographs, descriptions and crew lists.

The Artists on Fanø

Over the past 100 years, the environment, the motifs and the fine light on Fanø have attracted many painters.

Fanø Art Museum

Museum with both a permanent exhibition of painters associated with Fanø and changing exhibitions. The art museum is set up in an old building that has been used, among other things, as a merchant's yard and a factory. Like Skagen, for example, Fanø has attracted many artists because of the special light and picturesque life.

Under 2. Verdenskrig blev der bygget mere end 300 bunkere. Flere af dem kan stadig ses og opleves.

Belly Dance

No prerequisites are required – apart from the desire to start. Come and try "belly dancing" - it's good for both body and soul. Gentle form of exercise. And it is primarily about having fun.

It's not just the stomach that you dance with. The whole body is moved when you dance. Hips, stomach, shoulders, head, arms and hands are used in the dance.

Beach Sports

The large beach on Fanø is suitable for many types of beach sports. Fanø is known worldwide as the perfect sport for kiteflying and the world's largest kiteflier meeting takes place on Fanø

A 3 km stretch of the beach is reserved for blokart, kitebuggy, surf and other beach activities.

Blokart

If you are looking for thrills and excitement in a safe environment, you have come to the right place. Blokart is a unique experience for those who love sports on the beach and the wind in their hair. At Club Fanø, we are prepared to offer you unforgettable experiences of all time with friends and family, completely out in the open.

Blokart is for everybody, adults and children and for smaller childre we have karts with 2 seats.

Kite Landboarding

Kite Landboarding is for you who really want to feel the power and adrenaline of being pulled by a kite/kite. Landboarding can be called kitesurfing on land, and it's a great way to learn to control a powerkite. Fanø beach is the perfect place to learn the sport as the beach is wide, long, sloping and hard and there is a specific marked kite zone.

Skimboard

Skimboards are used at the water's edge where the water is shallow and flat. That's why Fanø's fantastic long flat beach is perfect for surfing and learning skimboard tricks.

The skimboard is smaller than the traditional surfboards, and is without fins. The board is used to glide across the surface of the water.

One-wheeler

Yes ! Our electric One-wheeler skateboards are perfect for off-roading. You have the entire huge beach to play on.

The board is controlled by your body movements, so if you've tried skateboarding, snowboarding or skating, you know how to do it. For complete beginners, our instructor will probably teach you how to master the one-wheeler.

Fanø - The island of Kites

Fanø is a perfect place to fly kites. There is plenty of room here for both the beginner who has just bought his first kite and the experienced kite flyer.

Golf on Fanø

The golf course is Denmark's oldest and only real links course. There are no other courses in Denmark like it.

Play Bubble football and get a few hours of sport, laughter and socializing. It is a game for both children and adults who can play together. When you put the plastic ball on, you are protected and can throw yourself into the fight.

Padel Tennis (Rødgaard Camping)

Padel, is a sport that is best described as 50% of the best from other racquet and bat sports and 50% fun, adrenaline, camaraderie and good company.
The sport is easy to get started with and therefore appeals to a wide group of practitioners.

Mobile Sauna

Try our mobile sauna on the beach at Fanø. It is both physical and mental relaxation. From the sauna's large panoramic window you can enjoy the view of the beach and the sea and combine it with a dip in the sea. With a sauna close to the water, even the cold shiver of bathing in winter becomes a pleasant experience.

Indor Playground (Rødgaard Camping)

Fanø's 150 m2 indoor play area extends over 3 levels!

Rødgaard Camping has a large indoor playground with lots of fun and activities for the little ones. A fun experience for all children under the age of 12.

Guests who do not live on the campsite can purchase access for an additional fee. Rødgard Camping's youngest guests have free entry.
